“‘The Book of Sand' is a collection of short stories by Jorge Luis Borges, one of the greatest writers from Argentina. When I thought of doing an image of a writer or a reader with a book on the cover of these molded books along with some abstract form - mostly letters - I perceived the image in relief marble dust. The grainy tactile surface gave me the title 'The Book of Sand'. Many years back I had read Borges and thought of his continuing theme of self reference, which is also very much part of my oeuvre.”
