TAKE on Writing Series: Art Writers’ Award, 2019-2020

In continuation of TAKE’s commitment to art writing, and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia’s sustained efforts in promoting critical discourse, we are pleased to announce the second edition of Art Writers’ Award (AWA), 2019-20. The award identifies and supports one Indian writer in the fields of visual arts, theatre, architecture, design, photography, etc. and offer the recipient a research residency in Switzerland for a period of up to 45 days.

Launch of Publication ‘Archive as Medium: Exploring the Performative Body’ by Najrin Islam

Where: Gallery Latitude 28, Lado Sarai, New Delhi

‘Archive as Medium: Exploring the Performative Body’ published by TAKE on Art magazine is launched along with a presentation of the research work by Najrin Islam (AWA awardee) as part of Art Writers’ Award 2018-19 on 8 August 2019. The event is organized in collaboration with Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and Gallery Latitude 28.

Launch: TAKE Fashion, Issue 23-24

When: 31 January 2019

Where: Agni, The Park, New Delhi

TAKE on Art magazine launched its 24th issue, TAKE Fashion, guest edited by Mayank Mansingh Kaul on 31 January 2019 at Agni, The Park, New Delhi hosted by Bhavna Kakar, Priya Paul and Sethu Vaidyanathan. The magazine was launched as part of the India Art Fair 2019 pre-inaugural party that attracts the dignitaries of the art world from India and abroad.

TAKE on Writing Series: ‘Readers of All Countries, Publish’

Where: The Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda

TAKE on Art in collaboration with Department of Art History and Aesthetics, The Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia presents ‘Readers of All Countries, Publish’ as part of TAKE on Art Writing series. Conceptualized by editor and publisher Bhavna Kakar, the workshop will be conducted by Andreas Vogel and Tania Prill.

TAKE TALKS: ‘Why publish? We publish!’ by Andreas Vogel and Tania Prill

Where: The Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda

As part of TAKE TALKS series, TAKE on Art presented ‘Why publish? We publish!’ on 17 December 2018. A public talk by Andreas Vogel and Tania Prill, it looked at the results of the Critical Writing Workshop ‘Readers of All Countries, Publish’, along with the selected participants. The talk was conducted in collaboration with Department of Art History and Aesthetics, The Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU Baroda and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.

TAKE on Writing Series: Critical Writing Workshop

TAKE on Art was invited to present a four day Critical Writing Workshop conceptualised by editor and publisher Bhavna Kakar for ‘Breaking Ground’, the first Indian Ceramics Triennale at the Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur in November 2018.

TAKE TALKS: ‘The Murals of K.G. Subramanyan’ by R. Siva Kumar

Where: Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur

As part of TAKE TALKS series, TAKE on Art presented ‘The Murals of K.G. Subramanyan’, a public lecture delivered by art historian R. Siva Kumar and moderated by writer and editor Skye Arundhati Thomas at ‘Breaking Ground’, the first Indian Ceramics Triennale on the 16 November 2018. The lecture is a part of the Critical Writing Workshop conceptualised by Bhavna Kakar.

This endeavour was conceptualised to initiate continuing dialogue among contemporary art writers and critics by connecting peers who could potentially exchange ideas, and offer each other critique and feedback. In continuation of TAKE’s commitment to art writing, and the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia’s sustained efforts in promoting critical discourse, the first Art Writers’ Award (AWA) was announced in early 2018.

The Making of TAKE Fashion, Issue 23-24

When: 18-27 August 2018

Where: Bikaner House, Pandara Road, New Delhi

TAKE on Art Magazine in collaboration with Bikaner House presented an interactive project. During this week, the team of the magazine along with the guest editor of TAKE Fashion, Mayank Mansingh Kaul invited conversations with visitors on their associations-reflections on Indian fashion.
