TAKE on Writing Series: ‘Critical Writing in Collaboration: Curating A Dream Project’

When: 7 – 9 September, 2017
Where: Piramal Art Foundation, Mumbai

Professor Rustom Bharucha conducted a three-day workshop ‘Critical Writing in Collaboration: Curating a Dream Project’ from 7th – 9th September, for 15 emerging and mid-career practitioners (artists, art writers, art historians, critics, curators, designers, poets, and architects) selected from a pool of applications received through an open call. The aim of this workshop is to encourage writers and artists to collaborate in the larger process of critical thinking and writing. This workshop will work at an informal and hands-on level, in which the participants will contribute to exercises, both individually and collectively, in which their capacity to listen and think aloud will be tested. The exercises will focus on the reading of personal statements, curatorial concepts, descriptions of exhibitions and reviews. From the act of critical reading and discussion, the workshop will then move on to acts of writing, culminating in the articulation of dream projects – an exhibition, an installation in a public space, a performance, a non-event – in which the participants will work and collaborate in small groups. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with Piramal Art Foundation.
