Life update

Published on 17 April 2024

Life update: This week, I made it to Winterthur, Switzerland as an artist in residence at the @villastraeuli, for 60 days, as a part of an art writer’s award from @takeonart and @prohelvetia_newdelhi. I spent days walking around this stunning city, exploring local roasteries, and textile art shops and befriending the stunning light in my room. Met me mentors and other artists at the opening of @kunsthallewinterthur and began charting the questions in my practice, began to hear the sound of my voice again. The kind of voice that is liberated, knows things and doesn’t respond from ego or hurt. The kind of voice that has stored years of wisdom and craft. The kind of voice that only comes out when you are at distance from things.

The one that has clarity and ideas in it. I didn’t know what silence like this could do and this is why I think artist residencies are so so meaningful. Because they actually make space and time for the grandest of art and writings to come out. We embody the chaos of our lives with so much inherence that every atom in my body is currently stunned by this gift of time, space and distance. While I first sat on my new studio desk here, and wrote a small excerpt of ideas, I thought: I have no idea what I am capable of.
