Soujit Das

Soujit Das is an independent researcher, currently based out of Delhi-NCR. He formerly worked as a full-time Assistant Professor of History of Art at Government College of Art and Craft Calcutta (University of Calcutta) and also previously taught at Amity University Noida. He received his doctoral degree (2020) from Department of HSS, IIT Roorkee, where his thesis explored ideas of Mughal Occidentalism. Prior to joining his doctoral studies, he pursued M.F.A. (2012) & B.F.A. (2010) degrees in History of Art from Kala Bhavana,
Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, after briefly pursuing B.Sc (Hons.) in Zoology. His primary area of academic interest revolves around cross-cultural artistic encounters in early modern India, with special reference to Mughal and arts of other early modern Indian Courts. As an archive enthusiast, he is also interested in exploring the visual culture of colonial Bengal. He regularly contributes to academic publications, popular magazines, museum newsletters besides occasionally writing about contemporary art.
